Oceanside softball rolls past Shipbuilders

Tyler, Mazurek, pitch and power Mariners past Shipbuilders

THOMASTON – The Oceanside softball team hosted Morse of Bath Wednesday afternoon and sent the Shipbuilders home with a 7-2 loss to think about.

As the season winds down, senior pitcher Paige Tyler is peaking at just the right time for the Mariners. Tyler has been on fire the past two games pitching the way the team needs from here on out.

“Paige threw very well again today,” said Oceanside coach Rusty Worcester. “11 K's [strikeouts] and only giving up one earned run and three hits. 23 strikeouts in back to back games.”

Oceanside goes to 11-3 with the win. They are currently in third place in the Maine Principals’ Association Heal point standings. The Mariners have two games left in regular season, Friday, May 29 they will travel to So. China to play Erskine Academy. They will finish by traveling to Waldoboro Monday, June 1, to face off with Medomak Valley.

Oceanside scored two runs in the second inning, and five in the fifth. Morse plated one n the first and one in the sixth.

The Mariner offense came from, Alexis Mazurek (homerun, single, 2 RBIs), Lauren Miller (2 singles), Brianna Dugan (double, 2 RBIs), Ari Curtis (single, RBI) and Alexis Davis (single).

“Alexis Mazurek connected on a 2-run blast with a homerun in the fifth inning and Brianna Dugan also had a double knocking in two big runs in the same inning.” said Worcester.

Tyler pitched seven innings allowing two runs, one earned on three hits and four walks while striking out 11.

For Morse, Hope Faulkingham (double, single), Mikayla Rose (single).

Marissa Parks pitched for Morse going six innings allowing seven runs and four walks while fanning six.
