Oceanside falls to Biddeford, eliminated from tournament

Oceanside’s fantastic season comes to a close

WALDOBORO – The Oceanside boys 11-12 baseball team has been participating in the State Championship Tournament hosted by Medomak Valley Little League of District 2. The District representatives gave it everything they had, but ultimately fell short of their goal with a loss today.

For these boys from Oceanside, this was quite the experience, to be playing in this tournament. And while they played well, and played with everything they had, today Biddeford was too much as they defeated Oceanside 9-6 thus eliminating the Mariners from tournament play.

It was an outstanding season for the boys from Oceanside. The team started the District 2 playoffs with a 15-4 win over Lincoln County. There second game was a nail biter they won 7-5 over Five Town Little League. With a trip to the championship, they lost to Waldo County 6-3 to force the “If” game which Oceanside won 5-2, to send them to the State Tournament.

Members of the 2015 Oceanside Little League All-Stars are, Zach Upham, Tyler Sukeforth, Finnegan Lynch, Aidan Munro, Logan Putansu, Nathan Coombs, Jonah Carlson, Tim Farrelly, Obie Miller, Joe Curtis, Nathaniel Barnard and Matthew Spear. The Manager is Davin Putansu, coaches are Steve Reynolds and Jed Miller.

Today’s game was close for the first three innings as with Oceanside up 2-0. Things changed quickly as Biddeford scored four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth inning to take a lead they would not surrender again as they went on to a 9-6 win.

Tim Farrelly and Jonah Carlson pitched for Oceanside allowing nine runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out six.

For Biddeford, Kurtis Edgerton (W), Brady Wildes, Scott Kelly and Aiden Donovan combined to allow six runs on seven hits and four walks while fanning 13.

Oceanside got their offense from Matthew Spear (triple, 2RBIs), Finnegan Lynch (double, run), Nathan Coombs (double), and Obie Miller, Tim Farrelly, and Zach Upham (single each).

For Biddeford, Kurtis Edgerton (single, double), Alex McAlevey (double), and Tommy Gonneville, Jr., Will Harriman, Aiden Donovan, Brady Wildes and Ashton Crowell (single each). (Other hitters names were not available)

Tomorrow, the games will be semifinals with No. 1 in Pool A, Hall-Dale, will take on No. 2 Westbrook, in Pool B followed by No. 1 Biddeford of Pool B, will play No. 2 Bangor West of Pool A.

The two losers will play Thursday, July 30 in a consolation game at 3 p.m. while the championship game will follow at 5 p.m. in a winner take all game.

And today for Oceanside, their teammate Joe Curtis, unable to play his last Little League game after yesterday’s injury, was in the dugout, cheering on his team, till the end. Curtis will now take the time to heal up and get ready for football. This team stuck together from start to finish and that is all the coaches could ask for.
