THOMASTON – In the battle of the Oceanside 8th grade girls basketball teams, the Blue team once again got the win over their schoolmates playing on the White team with a 34-30 hard-fought game that not only counts in the standings, but also gives a team bragging rights on the season.

Game one earlier in the season came down to a Hope and a prayer, while this one came down to unbelievable determination from both teams and foul shots. Or should we say missed foul shots.

Oceanside White missed its final four shots, four foul shots with the score at 34-30, which was the final score. They also went 1-of-10 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.

Oceanside Blue was not much better shooting from the charity stripe going just 4-of-13 in the final quarter. However, they won by four.

Blue took a 6-3 first quarter lead, but White fought back and took a 13-12 advantage into the locker room at the half. Blue took the lead back in the third quarter 22-10 and fought off a very good effort from White to hold on for the 34-30 win.

Scoring for Blue were Kalli Grover with 10 points; Raechel Joyce nine; Hope Butler, six; Anniliese Poison four; Kassidy Robinson three; and Chloe Fournier and Alexis Rytky one each.

Blue was 9-of-29 (31 percent) overall from the foul line and they had one 3-pointer from Grover.

For White, Hannah Moholland had 10 points; Brooke Post five; Gabby Straka, Abby Veilleux and Morgan Heal four each; and Chloe Jones three.

White was 7-of-21 (33 percent) from the foul line and had one 3-pointer from Straka.

The Oceanside Blue girls will play at Camden-Rockport Wednesday, Dec. 17 while the White girls team is off until Friday, Dec, 19 when they travel to Belfast to take on Troy Howard.
