Oceanside bests Auburn Suburban, rained out in second contest

WINDHAM — This summer’s 10- and 11-year-old Little League Baseball state tournament kicked off July 26 in Windham and saw Oceanside Little League best Auburn Suburban 18-9. 

The July 27 contest between Oceanside and Scarborough was postponed to Wednesday, July 30 at 5:45 p.m. due to rain. 

Oceanside team members include Nathaniel Barnard, Austin Chilles, Joey Curtis, Will Eaton, Darik Johnson, Finn Lynch, Hunter Moore, Hunter Norton, Logan Putansu, Tyler Sukeforth, Zach Upham and Landon Willis. The team is managed by Davin Putansu.

Oceanside plated two runs in each the first and sixth innings, seven in the second, one in the fourth and five in the fifth. 

Auburn Suburban scored two runs in each the first and fourth innings, three in the third and one in the sixth. 

At the plate for Auburn Suburban were Keenan (single, run), Landon (run), Chris Martin (two singles, four runs), Perry (single, two runs) and Jack Hart (single, run). Full names for some players were unavailable. 

Batting for Oceanside were Lynch (two singles, run), Putansu (single, run), Moore (two singles, three runs), Norton (three singles, double, three runs), Curtis (two singles, triple, run), Eaton (two singles, two runs), Sukeforth (single, run), Upham (single), Barnard (double) and Chilles (single). 

A win against Scarborough means Oceanside will face Saco Little League Friday, August 1 at 5:45 p.m. A loss will pit Oceanside against Bucksport Little League in an elimination game Thursday, July 31 at 5:45 p.m.
