Oceanside baseball slips past Maranacook in season opener

ROCKLAND — Playing at Rockland’s Morrill Field, the Oceanside varsity baseball team collected an 8-7 season opening victory over Maranacook Wednesday, April 18. 

The Mariners plated one run in the third inning, four in the fourth and three in the seventh while Maranacook plated one in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth. 

Oceanside collected 11 hits while committing six errors. Maranacook collected five hits while committing two errors. 

At the plate for Oceanside, Ben Ripley collected three singles, Titus Kaewthong had two singles and a double, Matt Waldron had two singles and Uriah Thongophaphone collected a double. 

At the plate for Maranacook, Silas Mohlar collected two singles and a double. 

Oceanside head coach Don Shields noted Oceanside rallied from down 7-1 to plate four runs in the fourth and then scored three in the bottom of the seventh to collect the walk-off victory.

Shields said Matt Waldron highlighted the fourth inning rally with two run single and then in the seventh Uriah Thongsaphaphone ripped a two run double to tie the game and scored the game winner on Michael Dougherty’s walk off single.
