O’Donnell, Cole win Scare Me 5K

ROCKLAND — The Scare Me 5K road race, the final 2014 race of the Go! Malawi race series, was held Saturday, Oct. 25 and saw a turnout of about 60 racers ready to compete. 

Go! Malawi is a Hebron-based non-profit that works in the “rural district Ntchisi in Malawi to help alleviate extreme poverty,” according to the organizations website. “Our mission is to help rural communities and empower the people to create self-sustainable solutions in education, health care and commerce.”

“The programs [for The Ntchisi Project] include micro-loans, orphan outreach, a school scholarship fund, conservation and preventative health care and awareness.” 

In the race, Pat O’Donnell won the men’s division in 17:22, while Casey Cole won the female division in 20:47.

According to the organization’s website, “Go! Malawi believes that every child, every person deserves to be able to reach their full potential! We believe that every child deserves to go to school and receive health care. We believe that to end extreme poverty it is important to empower and facilitate change through local leaders. We believe one person can make a difference and one person can change many lives.”
