Noon music in Lent at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Camden

Wed, 03/22/2017 - 4:00pm

St. Thomas Episcopal Church is again offering Noon Music in Lent, a free program of music in its church followed by a simple lunch of soup and bread in the Parish Hall. All are cordially invited. Professional musicians offer a half hour program on six successive Fridays. Each program opens with a short noonday prayer.

Suzanne Scott and Jane Schroeder will play Bach's Sheep may safely graze and Jesu, joy of man's desiring arranged for piano and organ by E. Power Biggs. Both Suzanne and Jane, professional church musicians, are delighted at how wonderful these two pieces sound.  They are fun to play, too!

Suzanne will play Don Hustad's piano arrangements of the Traditional American Melody God Is My Strong Salvation and Traditional Spiritual Talk About A Soul. (Please italicize titles.) Jane will play Robert A. Hobby's organ solo based on I am a poor wayfaring stranger. They finish the program with Mozart's Sonate No. 1 in D Major, an original composition for piano, four hands.

Suzanne Scott was a Lifelong Georgian until moving to Camden in July 2015 after retiring from Berry College as a Senior Advancement Officer.

She earned bachelor’s of church music and master’s of music degrees in organ served as organist/music associate and Director of Music in Metro Atlanta Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian churches. Later she owned and operated Opus I Music, a classical sheet music store in Decatur and Rome, GA. Suzanne also directed Rome's 50-member community choir, The Three Rivers Singers.

She is a member of the St. Thomas Choir.

Jane Schroeder earned her B.A. in music (organ), studied music at the University of Frankfurt (Germany) then earned her S.M.M. (Master of Sacred Music) at The School of Sacred Music, Union Theological Seminary, New York City. She has been a church musician/organist/choir director in Virginia, New York City, Westchester County, NY and Pennsylvania.  In 1972 Jane came to Maine for the first time, camped with friends at Baxter State Park and Acadia, and fell in love with Maine.

She was finally able to realize her long-held dream of moving to Maine in 2005, and although she knows she will never be a Mainer, she is happy as a clam at high tide. She is currently serving as Dean of the Bangor Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
