UNION — Knox County Sheriff's deputies responded to a head-on crash on the Common Road  in Union at approximately 10 a.m. this morning, Nov. 26.

Sherry Willis, 56, of Union, was operating a 2012 Honda sedan, traveling west on Common Road. She was attempting to go around an oil truck parked on the side of the hill making a delivery, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Mark Pendleton, 19, of Rockland, was traveling east in his 2005 Toyota sedan. As he crested the hill, Willis was partially in his travel lane. Pendleton attempted to brake to avoid hitting Willis, but sideswiped her before coming to rest on the side of the road.

Witness accounts reported that that Pendleton was traveling at a high rate of speed and due to evidence at the scene, Deputy Elwell issued a summons to Pendleton for imprudent speed, as well as failure to have an insurance bond.

No one was injured in the crash. Union Fire and Ambulance first responders assisted at the scene.
