ROCKLAND — The Sail Power & Steam Museum just added a large (20 foot) steeple to the Museum for the installation of a Foucault Pendulum.

The pendulum will be ready for this summer season and it is a 250-pound piece of lead on a 40 ft. wire (in the steeple) It swings back and forth while the EARTH TURNS UNDER IT!

"This pendulum is the only one in Maine, but many of the really big museums across the country have them," said Captain Jim Sharp in a news release. "It will hopefully be an exciting curiosity piece that visitors will want to see and help put us on the map."

The Sail Power & Steam Museum is located at 75 Mechanic St. You can reach the museum at 207-596-0200, email sailpowersteammuseum@gmail.com, or visit their website at sharpspointsouth.com
