SOUTH THOMASTON – Nancy A. Terrio, 75, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died Dec. 30, 2016, at the Sussman House in Rockport, after an extended battle with cancer.

Born in Rockland on May 13, 1941, she was the daughter of William and Gladys Tyler O'Brien. Educated in local schools, Nancy was a 1959 graduate of Rockland High School. She always loved to play the piano and with her friend, Gail Ladd, played the piano and organ respectively at their graduation. She later attended Husson College.

On April 27, 1961, Nancy married the love of her life, Lawrence L. “Larry” Terrio.

She first worked at W.C. Ladd & Sons in Rockland and also sold Avon products. After the birth of her children, she began employment at the former Depositors Trust Company in Rockland, where she worked as an administrative assistant more than 21 years, retiring from Key Bank.

Traveling with her husband brought Nancy great joy. Together they visited Montana, North Carolina, England, France, St. Lucia, Hawaii, Cape Cod, Florida, Indiana and their beach house in Myrtle Beach. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles, and walked 3 miles a day, right up until the end of this past September. She spent many hours in the gym, watching her grandchildren play basketball, and at the softball and baseball fields watching them.

She loved to knit and particularly enjoyed her Monday morning knitting group, which included Nancy's dear friends, Jan Finton, Joanne Lake, Mildred Lewis, Jane Sylvester, Molly MacMillan and the late Diane Koenig.

For more than 46 years, Nancy was an active member of the Federated Church of Thomaston, where she sang in the choir, and for many years she volunteered at the Thomaston Food Pantry.

During her last days, Nancy expressed how grateful she was to all the doctors and nurses at Pen Bay Medical Center, the Cancer Care Center and Sussman House, for their unbelievable love and caring.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Raymond O'Brien and his wife, Nancy.
