THORNDIKE — Another suspicious note found at Mount View High School Sept. 15 sent the school into lockdown for the second time in as many days.

Law enforcement responded to the school after the incident was reported around 1:10 p.m, according Sergeant Nicholas Oettinger, of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies declined to comment on the contents of the notes, but said they identified the student responsible for the note found Sept. 15. That student, a juvenile, has been charged in connection with the even, according to a press release.

Oettinger stated that law enforcement doesn’t believe the same juvenile is responsible for the earlier threatening note, discovered Sept. 14.

That note, which “communicated a potential threat,”  prompted the school to go on lockdown around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release issued the same day. All after school activities Sept. 14, were also cancelled as a result of the note.

While the Sept. 14 lockdown caused some students to be released from the school 30 minutes late, today’s lockdown lasted under an hour, according to Oettinger. The day’s after school activities also took place as usual.

Oettinger said that while some of the students seemed slightly worried, today’s incident was more of an inconvenience for the students and teachers than anything else.

The note that sparked the Sept. 14 incident remains under investigation by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, in a collaborative effort with RSU 3.

Law enforcement do not believe that any students or staff are in immediate danger.
