ROCKLAND — A Massachusetts man was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center Friday afternoon after he crashed his motorcycle into the back of a pickup truck, causing a chain-reaction crash on Camden Street (Route 1) in Rockland.

Rockland Police, Fire and EMS responded to the crash, which occurred on Aug. 26 at around 1:50 p.m. On the scene, they found three damaged vehicles, which had all been traveling southbound on Camden Street.

According to the accident report, Ronald Richards, 60, of Lowell, Mass., was operating a 1988 Kawasaki motorcycle and drove directly into the rear of a 1995 Toyota Tacoma being driven by Amber Libbey, 21, of St. George.

Libbey’s pickup was then pushed into the rear of a 2008 Ford Escape being driven by 35-year-old Eva Castor of Wiscasset.

Richards’ motorcycle caused significant damage to Libbey’s pickup truck, with minor damage being caused to Castor’s sedan.

Police said Libbey was slowing in traffic behind Castor when she was rear-ended by Richards.

Richards was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center by Rockland EMS for facial injuries. Doris Richards, 58, also of Lowell, who was traveling with Ronald Richards, was not injured. They were both wearing helmets, according to police.

Libbey and Castor were wearing their seat belts and were uninjured.

The motorcycle and the pickup truck had to be towed from the scene, and traffic on Camden Street was down to one lane for about half an hour.
