BELMONT — A 44-year-old Montville man who was previously convicted of rape and is now a lifetime registrant with the Maine Sex Offender Registry, was issued a summons for alleged unwanted sexual contact Dec. 20 at a home where he was a guest.

According to Waldo County Sheriff’s Lt. Jason Trudy, Edwin Furbush had been at a female’s residence in Belmont that evening, and due to having consumed alcohol was allowed to sleep on the couch for the night.

After retiring for the evening, the female homeowner called 911 and reported that she was awoken to Furbush attempting to remove her clothing.

The woman was able to separate herself from Furbush and then called for help.

Trundy said that Furbush was interviewed at his residence in Montville, and issued a summons for class D unlawful sexual touching.

The Maine Sex Offender Registry maintains a digital registry of offenders who are required by the state to register and maintain current records of where they live and work. The database is searchable by the public using either an individual’s name, a city/town, or an area ranging from a 0-30 mile radius around a zip code.
