BELFAST — Milton E. Thorndike, 83, of Belfast, passed away on March 15, 2017, at his home. He was born April 5, 1933, in Belfast, the son of John and Dora (Bunker) Thorndike.

Milton graduated from Crosby High School, Class of 1954. He went on to serve two years in the U.S. Army and spent a brief time in Germany. After his discharge from the military, he had a boat built in Nova Scotia and named it Sunset, which began his life-long lobstering career that he continued up until his death. His life-long love was lobstering in Penobscot Bay, and he also loved digging clams.

Milton also worked building foundations for 15 years as well as working at Penobscot Frozen Foods. Hunting and fishing as well as outdoor sports of all kinds were of great enjoyment to him. He also enjoyed going out to eat with his sister, Irene.

He was predeceased by his parents. Milton is survived by his loving sister, Irene Thorndike of Belfast; as well as many friends he has met throughout the years.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave. in Belfast. Graveside services will be announced in the spring at Grove Cemetery in Belfast.
