Mildred Deraps, obituary

ROCKPORT — Mildred I. Deraps, 95, died March 8, 2015, at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta where she had resided for several years.

Born March 22, 1919, in Phillips, she was the daughter of Alsie and Gladys (Hinckley) Rollins and was a graduate of Phillips High School, Class of 1938. On Oct. 22, 1938, she married Charles Joseph Bertram Deraps in St. Luke's Catholic Church in Rangley.

In 1959, Mr. and Mrs. Deraps moved to Rockport, where she enjoyed working on election days at the polls for the town of Rockport. She was a communicant at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church and a former lector and a member of the Franciscan prayer group. A caregiver of the homeless, young and elderly, Millie was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. "Bert" Deraps, who died Sept. 4, 1997; a sister, Winifred Berry; and a nephew, Dennis Berry. Surviving are her two children, Paul Deraps of Rockport and Beverly Blodgett and her husband, Stephen, of South Portland; seven grandchildren, Theresa Kneeskern, Michelle Oliveto, Stephanie Cliff, Angela Kooistra, Stephen Blodgett, Patricia Kay and Michael Blodgett; nine great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Ricky Berry of Thomaston.

A memorial mass followed by a reception will be held Saturday, March 28 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Camden.

Spring interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Cemetery in Rangley.
