COED SOCCER
OCT. 2
Lincolnville 4, South Bristol 0… It was a chillier day on the Lincolnville soccer pitch than has been seen at this point in the fall for many a year, but that did not deter the determined Lincolnville squad as they prevailed over a feisty South Bristol team 4 to 0.

The first 23 minutes played relatively evenly despite the Lynx’s possession advantage. The scrappy South Bristol defense backed by a highly skilled keeper continually deflected Lincolnville’s scoring thrusts and riposted with several of their own.  The Lynx finally broke through when midfielder extraordinaire Kris Kelly picked up a goal kick, dribbled in for five yards to set up her shot, and unleashed a beauty that caught the nets in the upper right corner.  Striker Hayden Thibeault followed that up seven minutes later after winger Jack Fishman, playing in a crowd in front of the net, fed a quick, short pass to midfielder Sam Luft, who moved it equally quickly on to Thibeault who popped the ball into the net from short range.

Lincolnville struck extremely quickly at the beginning of the second half.  With only one minute gone, Kelly picked up a loose ball just past the centerfield circle and alertly sent a strong angling pass deep to winger Owen Markowitz on the right wing.  Markowitz picked it up without breaking stride, took a single dribble to improve his odds, and slammed the ball home to the far post.  Two minutes after that, Lincolnville received a South Bristol own goal as a defender kicked the ball into the net.  Fishman, again working in a crowd, launched the shot on its way into the net and received credit for the score.  Both teams then settled into a pattern of launching scoring runs on each other’s net without any further success.

OCT. 5
Lincolnville 3, Jefferson 0… At Lincolnville, The Lincolnville eleven put on a strong showing against a tough Jefferson team finally prevailing by a score of 3-0 on Monday.

While the Lynx had an overall edge throughout the game, Jefferson’s players played extremely well and aggressively. In fact, it took 24 minutes for the Lynx to get on the scoreboard, and that only came after a Jefferson defender tripped midfielder Kris Kelly in the box to set up a penalty kick. Kelly took it and calmly popped it home to the keeper’s left.

LCS struck more quickly in the second half for the insurance goal when winger Owen Markowitz started a drive up the middle from a few yards outside of the box in the middle of the field.  Between Markowitz and striker Hayden Thibeault, they fought the ball through three Jefferson players and broke through all alone, joined by winger Jack Fishman to make it a three player break away. Markowitz took the shot, driving it just inside the post to the keeper’s left. Thibeault got the assist. The final goal was all Kelly as she moved the ball through a crowd and drove it past the keeper unassisted.

The LCS defense of Lulu Lydon, Kasey Wood, Wyatt Munson, and Hope Osgood played a fine game to help keeper Matt Kremin preserve the shutout.  In addition to Kelly at midfield, Sam Luft, and Eric Andrews did an excellent job working with both offense and defense to control the game.

OCT. 5
Hope 14, Nobleboro 0… At Nobleboro,  The final score was 14-0, Hope. Adam Thorndike, Taylor Wesbrock, and Owen Power each scored three goals. Two goals were made by Ella Pierce. Kieran McGrath, Sylvan Eichenlaub, and Frances Ostenson each scored one goal.

OCT. 7
Lincolnville 9, Nobleboro 1… At Nobleboro, Lincolnville prevailed once again against a young and eager Nobleboro team 9 to 1.

The Nobleboro Lions got a good start to the game, keeping the aggressive Lynx at bay while racking up the first score at nine minutes gone on a strong punt by the keeper that soared over the LCS defense on the very short field. An opportunistic Lions forward charged quickly to gain control and go in all alone on LCS keeper Matt Kremin, who did not have any realistic chance of saving the shot.

LCS struck back two minutes later when winger Jack Fishman gained control of the ball in the Lions’ box and sent it to his left to striker Kasey Wood who slammed the ball into the open back side of the goal.  In rapid succession, Fishman then fed midfielder Sam Luft on a similar play with Luft finishing by crossing the ball back to nestle in the net just inside the back post. Midfielder Eric Andrews struck next on an unassisted goal from the right side, and a minute later Luft repeated his scoring performance, assisted this time by winger Joey LaChance. Two minutes had elapsed before midfielder Kris Kelly followed with her unassisted score, and the final goal was Wood’s once again on an unassisted thrust up the middle.

Things settled down more in the second half with only three goals scored compared to the seven goal bonanza of the first half. The first came at nine minutes as Kremin, now playing midfield, corralled a punt by keeper Tristan Black and drove through several Lions’ defenders before breaking in alone on the Nobleboro keeper to score. Another 10 minutes elapsed before striker Hope Osgood weaved her way through the middle of the Nobleboro defense to get number eight for the Lynx, and midfielder Rowan Hurlburt got the final score at the 24 minute mark as he tipped in a feed from Osgood at the far post.

With this victory, Lincolnville completed an impressive 8-1-1 regular-season and is now well poised to enter the playoff season.

BOYS SOCCER
OCT. 2
Camden-Rockport eighth 4, CRMS seventh 1… It was quite a game Thursday as CRMS seventh grade and eighth-grade boys soccer teams played each other. Though some students were sure they could predict the game's outcome, both teams put forth their best efforts and made the game a close and exciting one.

During the first half seventh grade struggled to get the ball past eighth grade's quick defense but made a few great plays that resulted in some exciting breakaways near the end of the first half.

Austin Ford and Jeremy Fraser both took a few strong shots on goal and Fraser finally got one in near the end of the first half resulting in a 1-0 lead for seventh grade at halftime.

Coming into the second half, eighth played with stamina and determination and quickly scored three goals. The Seventh grade was resilient though and continued to put up a fight as the team worked together to challenge the opposing team. Though the eighth grade ended up scoring another goal, making the final score 4-1, seventh grade came together as a team to show perseverance and support for each other and were proud of the hard work they put forth throughout the game.

OCT. 5
CRMS 2, Oceanside 1… Oceanside and CRMS eighth grade boys soccer teams had a great game today with both sides fighting it out until the end.

Zephyr Bombeke put CRMS on the boards approximately 15 minutes into the first half with a lovely goal off an opportunity generated by Parker Stuart, who deflected an Oceanside goal-kick into the box.

Oceanside fought back and countered with a goal close in amongst the CRMS defenders bringing the game to a 1-1 close at halftime.

CRMS made some positional changes and came out stronger in the second half but seemingly to no avail as Oceanside blocked, saved and otherwise stopped countless goal scoring opportunities time and again.

However, CRMS boys kept at it finally passing around the defense rather than trying to penetrate through the defense.  With about 10 minutes left in the match, Danila Borodaenko scored his second goal of the season off a tidy pass from Quinn Brown bringing CRMS to a 2-1 victory over Oceanside.

Andrew Orne and Sam Conlan defended the goal for CRMS.  The teams will face off again on Wednesday evening.
