Midcoast Conservancy will be hosting an engaging and informative evening of environmentally-themed films at the Colonial Theatre (163 High Street) in Belfast on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 4-6 p.m.

Based on the Wild and Scenic Film Festival model developed by the South Yuba River Citizens League, the event is designed to leave attendees feeling inspired and motivated to go out and make a difference in their community and the world. At the screening, witness how individuals and communities across the globe are taking action and becoming part of the solution on issues ranging from energy, food systems, biodiversity, climate change and the protection and restoration of wild lands and wild waters.

Films on the schedule include “Ghost in the Making: Searching for the Rusty-patched Bumblebee,” “Writing on Stone,” the portrait of Treffrey Deerfoot, a venerated elder in the Siksika Tribe in Alberta, Canada; “The Super Salmon,” about threats posed by a plan to construct a $5.2-billion hydroelectric mega-dam on Alaska’s Susitna River; and “Plastico,” about beach communities around the world that suffer from an abundance of plastic that tragically ends up in the oceans at an alarming rate – over 8 million metric tons per year.

In total, 12 short films will be screened. Attendees are invited to head over to nearby Darby’s Restaurant after the showing to discuss the films. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. All proceeds go to support Midcoast Conservancy’s work protecting healthy lands, waters, and communities through conservation, outdoor adventure, and learning.

Local sponsors for the event include The Green Store, Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition, and Greenways Eco Center. National sponsors include Patagonia, Klean Kanteen, Clif Bars, Orion Magazine, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, Sierra Nevada and Earth Justice.
