BELFAST — Midcoast Actors' Studio is holding registration for MAS jr. Summer Youth Musical Theater Camp, July 13-24 at Troy Howard Middle School. Jason Bannister, artistic director of MAS and THMS performing arts teacher/drama club advisor will lead the camp.

"As a kid, I loved doing a musical in the summer," Bannister said in a news release. "I know a lot of students who want to be in a show, so I thought a two week camp would be great for them."

The 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., M-F day camp will focus on rehearsing the Broadway junior musical Dear Edwina, jr. Each day Bannister will lead campers in acting warm-ups and improv games, then rehearse the play, with a performance for family and friends at the end of camp on the second week.

Bannister has extensive experience working with kids and theater. He has directed ten Broadway jr. musicals, including Dear Edwina at THMS in 2007. Bannister directed his THMS drama club in the production of Shrek the musical jr. this March.

"Dear Edwina is a fun musical for kids," Bannister added in the news release. "There are no real leads - so plenty of parts for everyone."

The camp will also give children the opportunity to design costumes, props, set, lighting and sound.
