Medomak Valley quickly exited state tournament

WALDOBORO — The Medomak Valley 9- and 10-year-old softball squad began pool play July 20 at Waldoboro’s John Foster Field, only to lose both games and be quickly eliminated from the state tournament. 

In the opening game, Cape Elizabeth topped Medomak Valley 24-7 in four innings, while Biddeford defeated Medomak Valley 21-4 in four innings. A normal little league contest is six innings, but can be halted after four if a team leads by 10 runs or more. 

Team members for Medomak Valley included Eliza Nelson, Stephanie Morse, Taylor Podrasky, Hannah Lee, Cameron Bains, Lucy Jameson, Zaniah Puchalski, Grace White, Gabriella Parker, Autumn Ripley, Madilyn Simmons and Baylee Stewart. The team was managed by Chris Jameson and coached by Carrie White and Stacy Simmons.

Following are reports from both contests. 

Cape Elizabeth 24, Medomak Valley 7 (4 innings)

Cape Elizabeth posted two runs in the first inning, seven in the second, 12 in the third and three in the fourth, while Medomak Valley plated one in the second and sixth in the fourth. 

At the plate for Medomak Valley were Ripley (double), Podrasky (double), Morse (single), Nelson (single), Bains (single) and Stewart (single). 

Batting for Cape Elizabeth were Abby Agrondia (two singles), Kathryne Clay (two singles), Anna Cornell (four singles), Clara Parker (single), Helena Rieger (single), Katherine Callahan (single), Analise Gordon (single), Katharine Blackburn (double) and Dana Schwartz (double). 

Morse worked the pitcher’s circle for Medomak Valley, while Agrondia and Cornell pitched for Cape Elizabeth. 

Medomak Valley committed 10 errors, while Cape Elizabeth committed one. 

Biddeford 21, Medomak Valley 4 (4 innings)

Medomak Valley tallied up one in each the second and fourth innings and one in the third, while Biddeford added two runs in the first, eight in each the second and third and three in the fourth. 

In the batter’s box for Medomak Valley were Lee (two singles) and Parker (single). 

Swinging the bats for Biddeford were Charlotte Donovan (three singles, triple), Chantelle Bouchard (two singles), Laura Perreault (single), Anna Lavigne (single), Aliyah Bureau (single) and Jayme Walton (two singles). 

Pitchers were White (Medomak Valley), Parker (Medomak Valley), Donovan (Biddeford), Hanna Gosselin (Biddeford) and Rachel Brask (Biddeford).
