The Midcoast sports scene was busy with several sporting events on Saturday, May 27.

Below are the scores and stats for those contests that were reported to our sports department.

Varsity Softball: Oceanside 12, Belfast 0

Oceanside (12-2) plated four runs in the first, one in the second, five in the fouth and two in the sixth. Belfast fell to 4-11 on the season. 

In the circle for Belfast was Brooke Richards (four innings, three strikeouts, seven walks) and Gia Davila (two innings, two strikeouts). 

In the circle for Oceanside was Chloe Jones (six innings, 11 strikeouts, two walks). 

At the plate for Oceanside were Hannah Moholland (two singles, double, triple, two RBIs), Alexis Mazurek (home run, RBI), Rachel Joyce (two singles, three RBIs), Jones (single, triple, two RBIs), Kalli Grover (single, RBI) and Morgan Heal (single, RBI). 

Oceanside head coach Rusty Worcester stated: “Chloe Jones threw her second [no-hitter] on the year today and got plenty of support from Hannah Moholland going 4 for 4 with [three] RBIs and Alexis Mazurek hit another homer, a solo shot in the first inning. Chloe also help herself at the plate hitting a triple and a single and [two] RBIs. Rachel Joyce also had a very nice day at the plate with [two] singles and [three] RBIs. She was out 19 days with a sprained thumb and is coming back very nicely here at the end of the season. The girls are putting together some nice plays and coming together at the right time.”

Varsity Baseball: Oceanside 7, Belfast 5

Oceanside (8-6) scored one run in the second, four in the fourth and two in the eighth. Belfast (5-10) plated one run in the first, three in the fourth and one in the seventh. 

On the mound for Oceanside were Michael Dougherty (four innings, four runs, one earned run, four hits, four strikeouts) and Jack Freeman (four innings, one run, one earned run, one hit, three strikeouts). 

On the mound for Belfast were Grey Dinsmore (seven innings, five runs, five earned runs, six hits, six strikeouts, one walk and one hit-by-pitch) and Zach Dyer (0.2 innings, two runs, two earned runs, two hits, one strikeout). 

At the plate for Belfast: Zach Dyer (single, double), Skylar Perkins (double). 

At the plate for Oceanside: Michael Norton Jr (single, double), Freeman (home run), Logan Sheridan (two run home run) and Titus Kaewthong (triple). 

Oceanside head coach Don Shields stated: Oceanside’s Logan Sheridan ripped a walkoff [two] out, [two] run homer to deep left field to give the Mariners the 7-5 win over Belfast in [eight] innings. Belfast took a 4-1 lead in the [fourth] inning scoring [three] runs on [four] Oceanside Errors. The Mariners stormed back in the [fifth] inning with [four] runs on Jack Freeman’s leadoff homer, Titus Kaewthong’s [two] run triple and Michael Norton’s RBI single.

Belfast tied the game in the [seventh] inning on Skylar Perkins’ lead off double, coming around to score on a wild pitch.
