MATINICUS — Maude M. Ames, 74 , of Matinicus, passed away May 21, 2015. Maude had reached out her hand to someone to take her home with the Lord to end her courageous and long battle with lung cancer. Her sister, Beth, was at her side to share this beautiful moment with her at Knox Long Term Care in Rockland.

Maude was born Aug. 20, 1940, to George and Dorothy Nolan of Rockland. Maude attended Rockland schools. Later in her life she met Kenneth Ames and they married on Aug. 18, 1979. They would have been married for 36 years this August. They made their home on Matinicus Island until the time of her death. Maude had done lots of things while living on the Island. She loved to cook and cleaned people's houses for them. She loved her life on Matinicus.

Maude was predeceased by her husband of 36 years Kenneth “Black Duck” Ames Sr.; her parents; her two children, Gary Lee Roscoe and Mary Lou Roscoe; two brothers, George Nolan Jr. and Charles Nolan; her brothers-in-law, Keith Ames, Kenneth M. Ames Jr., C. Austin Ames and William "Bill" McNeil.

Maude is survived by her daughter, Faith McLamurry of Bangor; her sister, Beth and her husband, Richard Penney, of Rockland, whom she loved dearly; her sister, Peggy Nolan of Bangor; her brother, Kenneth Nolan Sr. of Jeffersonville, In.; her two grandchildren, Derek Roscoe and Hope McLamurry; her life-long friend, Marion Penney, of Rockland; her nephews, Shaun Seavey of Rockland, whom she had a very special place in her heart for, Kenneth Nolan Jr., Dougie Nolan of Jeffersonville, In., David Ames, Mark Ames, and Billy McNeil Jr., and their families; her nieces, Raquel Seavey of Camden, who cared for her many times during her hospital stays and had a very special place for her in her heart, and Lois Goodman of Jeffersonville, In. She is also survived by many cousins, and her very dear friends on Matinicus Island and her friend who now resides in Florida whom she loved and cared for so very much and had taken such great care of her.

I want to thank you all. You will always have a special place in my heart and also a very special thank you to the nurses and CNAs at the Knox Center for her excellent care - she loved you all.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Maude is under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine
