THOMASTON — The Oceanside White eighth-grade girls basketball team hosted Troy Howard Middle School of Belfast Monday afternoon in its final game of November.

After opening the game with a 22-0 first quarter lead, the Mariners sailed to a 60-21 win, leading 33-9 at the half and 50-15 after three full quarters before coasting to the win.

The Mariners opened the game with crisp passing, running the floor with a purpose, and some good shooting as they tallied the 22-0 first quarter advantage.

Defensively, the Mariners did not allow the Lions to get a shot off in the first quarter with its full court press and blazing speed that kept the Lions off balance.

Three minutes into the second quarter, the Lions scored and that seemed to settle them down a little; however, it was slightly too late.

Scoring for the Mariners were Chloe Jones, with a game high 17 points; Hannah Moholland 16; Nicole Paulsen eight; Jaycee Foster six; Abby Veilleux and Morgan Lindsey four each; Gabby Straka three; and Brooke Post two.

The Mariners were 2-of-6 (33 percent) from the foul line.

For Troy Howard, Maya Cunnington tallied eight points; Shera Hilt seven; Gia Davila four and Karagan Stone two.

The Lions were 1-of-2 (50 percent) from the foul line.

Next up for Troy Howard will be Medomak Middle School Monday, Dec. 1. The Mariners return to action Wednesday, Dec. 3 when they head to Great Salt Bay of Damariscotta. Both games tip at 3:45 p.m.
