Marine warning: Haul in sails and head for shore — another thunderstorm heading southeast across Penobscot Bay

    The skies rumbled dramatically this morning before dawn and are expected to do so again late this afternoon. At 4 p.m., this from the National Weather Service in Gray, which issued a marine warning for Penobscot Bay, until 4:45 p.m.

    “At 3:54 p.m., Doppler Radar indicated a strong thunderstorm capable of producing winds 34 knots or greater and small hail located eight miles miles northwest of Islesboro, or 13 miles north of Camden, moving southeast at 20 knots.

    “Locations impacted include North Haven, Islesboro, Isle au Haut and Vinalhaven.

    “As the thunderstorm moves over the water boaters can expect gusty winds and high waves.... Stay close to shore until storm passes.

    “Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open waters, stay below deck if possible... keep away from ungrounded metal objects.”
