ROCK PORT, Mo. — Marie E. Hurtig, 69, of Rock Port, Mo., passed away on the morning of Feb. 13, 2017. Born in Union on Jan. 22, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth Blake.

Marie moved to Missouri many years ago with her fifth husband, Robert Hurtig, who lost a cancer battle in 2010. Marie had been diagnosed with stage four cancer in January of this year.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Dana (Wooster) Grubbs of Thomaston; her grandsons, Logan and Kasey Grubbs; and her five siblings, Jim, Eddie, John, Nancy Matson and Ruth Kirkpatrick; along with their various spouses and children. Additionally, she leaves behind another “daughter,” Barbara York, and her family; as well as many friends in the Midcoast area.

After her relocation to Missouri, Marie began a cat rescue, called The Rock Port Cat Ranch. She was very passionate about this work.

There will be no public services, as the family has chosen to remember her privately.

Should one wish to make a memorial donation in Marie's name, it is clear that she would like that to go to her Cat Ranch in Missouri, which has been left in the care of her friends there.
