Man strikes bridge abutment avoiding animal in road

    BROOKS — An early morning accident on Purple Heart Highway left a driver with minor injuries on Saturday, Sept. 17.

    Caleb Woodward, 24, of Bangor, was avoiding an animal that entered the roadway when his vehicle struck a bridge abutment around 5:00 a.m., according to a media report from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. 

    The 2013 Chrysler 200 Woodward was operating sustained significant front end damage in the accident and was towed from the scene. 

    Woodward sustained minor injuries in the wreck and was transported to Waldo County General Hospital by Brooks Ambulance for treatment. 

    Both weather and speed are considered to be factors in the accident, according to the media report.
