Man injured in Knox single-vehicle crash

    KNOX — On Monday, August 21, at approximately 9:21 p.m., Waldo County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash in the Town of Knox on Penney Road.

    Upon arrival, reponders discovered that a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Christian Zingia, 25, of Knox was traveling at a high rate of speed and went off the road to the left, Zingia then overcorrected and went off the road to the right, striking a tree.

    The crash caused the vehicle to catch fire, the fire was extinguished by the Freedom Fire Department. Zingia escaped the vehicle, suffering non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Waldo County General Hosptial via Unity Ambulance. Zingia was then transported to EMMC via Lifeflight of Maine.

    The crash remains under investigation. Waldo County Sheriff’s Deputy Wiley McVety is the primary investigator of the crash, assisted by Cpl. Greg Jones and Deputy David Wight.
