ROCKLAND – A 28-year-old man has been arrested following an investigation that began two weeks ago after a child younger than 12 years old was sexually assaulted in Camden.

Nicholas Emerson, 28, of Otisfield, was arrested Oct. 10 at his home by Maine State Police, according to Camden Police Detective Curt Andrick.

Emerson has been charged with gross sexual assault, a Class A offense and five counts of unlawful sexual contact, Class B offenses.

Maine State Police transferred Emerson to the Knox County Jail. He is expected to make his initial court appearance Oct. 14.

The detective declined to comment on the case.
