Maine State Snow Sculpting Championships – Still accepting entries
CAMDEN – The first weekend of this year's Winterfest will include the annual Maine State Snow Sculpting Championships on the Village Green, beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4.
Camden is proud to be the yearly host of this event, the only U.S. sanctioned Snow Sculpting Competition in Maine. Teams from all over New England come to Camden to spend the day sculpting intricate designs in their block of snow, turning them into fanciful pieces of art.
Judging for the Snow Sculpting Competition will take place Sunday, Feb. 5, at 9:30 a.m.,followed by an award ceremony. Spectators are invited to watch the sculpting take place and to vote for the sculpture best suited for the "People's Choice Award."
Entries are still being accepting and all competitors must register in advance. Anyone interested in registering can visit camdenwinterfest.com and follow the application link for the Snow Sculpting Competition.
The winner of this competition will travel to the U.S. Snow Sculpting Nationals in Lake Geneva, Wisc., to represent the state of Maine.
In addition to the competitive snow sculpting, there will be smaller blocks of snow available on the Village Green for beginners to test their skills.
The week-long Winterfest celebration includes a variety of other events throughout the week, and a full schedule is available at camdenwinterfest.com and on Facebook, for regular updates and event information.
