Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap announces official 2016 state ballot results, excepting Questions 1 and 2

    The official tabulation of votes from the 2016 General and Referendum Election is now available, Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap said Dec. 8. Gov. Paul LePage issued the proclamation of the certified results Thursday afternoon. The legislation approved by voters in Questions 4-6 will become law 30 days from Dec. 8, on Jan. 7.

    The full results will be posted at maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/results/index.html.

    The General Election tabulation includes the certified election results for the statewide offices of Maine's Representatives to Congress, members of the Maine Legislature, and certain county officers, as well as the federal offices of President/Vice President of the United States of America.

    The Referendum Election tabulation includes the certified election results for the statewide referendum and bond questions:

    Question 3: An Act To Require Background Checks for Gun Sales
    Question 4: An Act To Raise the Minimum Wage
    Question 5: An Act To Establish Ranked-choice Voting
    Question 6: An Act To Authorize a General Fund Bond Issue to Improve Highways, Bridges and Multimodal Facilities<>/ul

    The certified, official tabulations of Questions 1 and 2 have not yet been proclaimed.

    Question 1, "An Act to Legalize Marijuana," is undergoing a recount, so an updated tally will be certified and issued to the governor for proclamation once that process is completed.

    The proclamation of Question 2, "An Act To Establish The Fund to Advance Public Kindergarten to Grade 12 Education," is also delayed, as a recount was initially requested for this question and later withdrawn.
