Maine news: Skowhegan police officer pulls mother, son from burning home

    For the second time in two days, Skowhegan firefighters battled a mobile home blaze Dec. 4.

    On Sunday afternoon, a fire destroyed a home where fire investigators said 53-year-old Michelle Sweet was burned and suffered smoke inhalation while smoking on oxygen.

    The woman was able to escape the mobile home and was found outside near her car She was flown by the Lifeflight helicopter to Maine Medical in Portland. The fire was reported at approximately 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

    Investigators still are trying to determine the cause of a mobile home fire Friday night that injured a mother and her young son on North Ave. in Skowhegan. A four year old boy, Tyler Curtis-Benson,  is showing improvement at the Shriner's Hospital in Boston, but that is not the case for his mother, 24-year-old Andrea Curtis, who is being treated at Maine Medical Center, according to a news release from the Maine Dept. of Public Safety.

    Skowhegan Police Officer Timothy Williams entered the burning home and pulled the two to safety after finding them in the living room.  Williams was treated and released for smoke inhalation.

    ​A team of fire marshal investigators are working on determining the cause of the fire, which broke out around 830 p.m.
