Maine Drug Enforcement and Sanford Police have arrested a teenager and his uncle and charged them with operating a methamphetamine lab in an apartment at 29 Charles Street.  Arrested are Tanner Winship, 18, and his 40 year old uncle, Herbert Winship, both from Sanford.   

The teenager was charged Monday and the uncle was charged March 8.  The meth was discovered when Sanford Police responded to the home on Sunday evening after getting a report of a noxious order coming from Apartment B. The MDEA’s meth lab team responded and found evidence of meth making inside, and a mason jar containing the addictive drug.  The team cleared the home early Monday morning.

A few hours later, Sanford Police were called to an adjacent property on Grove Street for a suspicious duffle bag in the yard.   Found inside the bag were the ingredients to make meth, and a plastic bottle where meth was being cooked.  Drug agents are now investigating whether the two men were also responsible for the duffle bag.   

The two men are at the York County Jail, being held in lieu of $15,000 bail.  The older man was arrested by State Police Monday at a home in Lyman on unrelated charges for violating his probation.  The meth charge was added today.   

These are the eighth and ninth meth lab responses from MDEA this year.  Last year there were 125.
