HOPE — Lorraine A. Ott, 78, died peacefully on April 18, 2016, at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Born Sept. 15, 1937, in Winter Harbor, she was the daughter of Leslie and Minnie Bickford Perry. Lorraine grew up Down East, attending high school at a one-room schoolhouse in Winter Harbor.

A hard worker from a young age, Lorraine spent her career working as a manager of several local laundromats and dry cleaning businesses. After retiring she kept busy working in one of her favorite pastimes, the bookstore.

She is remembered as a hard worker who was well liked by coworkers and customers alike. She was an avid crossword enthusiast, and was very good at solving that last four letter word. Her loved ones remember her for bringing the family together through her true gift of cooking, which she gladly passed on to her son-in-law, to carry on the tradition.

Her most enjoyable moments included hunting for treasures and new adventurous books while going to lawn sales with her daughter, then hurrying home to read them before the next weekend arrived. Others knew her for her charismatic smile, and sweet tender heart that made everyone feel special in her life. She will sadly be missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her husband, Francis Ott in 1995; Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Teresa "Terri" Thayer and her husband, Gary, of Hope; her son, Raymond Ott of Warren, who was predeceased by his wife, Gwendolyn Ott; her step-children, Brenda Rios and her husband, Fred, of Florida, and Edward Ott of Warren; her brothers, Richard Perry and his wife, Kay, of Sullivan, and Leslie Perry of Arizona; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside celebration of her life was held on April 22, 2016, at East Union Cemetery on Miller Road in Union. The Rev. Peter Jenks officiated.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
