ROCKLAND and VINALHAVEN — Lois E. Webster 92, died peacefully Nov. 30, 2012, at Woodland's Memory Care Center in Rockland.

Born on Vinalhaven Feb. 8, 1920, she was the daughter of Raymond and Kittie Calderwood Webster. Educated locally, she was a 1938 graduate of Vinalhaven High School.

She later graduated from Gorham Normal School. For many years she was an elementary school teacher for the Natick Public Schools District in Massachusetts.

Throughout her life, Lois has been accomplished at arts and crafts. She had a particular gift for making and restoring signs, and has worked on many signs around town including the Pleasant River Grange; Woodcock, Cassie, Coombs American Legion Post No. 18; and the Past Masters Roll at the Grange. She also painted the Nativity scene used at the Pleasant River Chapel. Lois was the caretaker for the grounds at the Grange until she was 90 years old, which was named in her honor as Lois Webster Park.

A long time resident of Vinalhaven, Lois has been a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Pleasant River Grange and the Pleasant River Chapel. Lois has always taken great joy in living near the water and enjoyed sailing.

Predeceased by her siblings, Avis W. Calderwood, Curtis, Kenneth, Donald and Delwyn Webster; Lois is survived by a sister-in-law, Elizabeth 'Beth' Webster; her life-long friend, Louise Bickford, and many nieces and nephews.
