WEST ROCKPORT — Linda E. Giles, 72, died April 20, 2016, at Tidewell Hospice of Venice, after a lengthy battle with breast cancer.

Born in Woonsocket, R.I., she was the daughter of Jordan H. and Mavis Rowell Edwards. While growing up in Harrisville, R.I., she attended local schools and was a 1961 graduate of Burriville High School. In 1974 she moved to Rockland, where she began employment at the former Knox County General Hospital, now Pen Bay Medical Center. She worked as a physical therapy aid for Penobscot Bay Medical Center until her retirement in 1995. Thereafter she continued on a per diem basis.

In 1988, Linda graduated from the Portland School of Massage. In 1990, she married David O. Giles in Presque Isle. He died in 2009. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, camping and traveling with her husband. She served as an ambassador for the AARP.

Linda's true calling was caring for others. That care was extended to her mother-in-law and brother-in-law during their final days.

In addition to her parents; and husband; Linda was predeceased by one brother, Ralph Edwards in 2002. She is survived by one brother, Carl Edwards and his wife, Michelle Edwards, of South Gardiner; a sister, Helen Perry and her husband, Jim Howard, of Sydney; and a sister-in-law, Corlene Edwards of Conroe, Texas.

A celebration of Linda's life will be held on Saturday, May 21, at 11 a.m. at Abundant Grace Ministries, 3 Brierly Lane in Searsmont. A private burial will follow this summer.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you honor Linda's memory by making a donation to the food pantry that Linda supported through Abundant Grace Ministries.
