ROCKLAND — A Lincolnville man, who was arrested July 12 for domestic violence assault, remains in the Knox County Jail pending a motion filed July 15 to revoke his probation.

Tyler Vangel, 22, of Lincolnville, was arrested by Knox County Sheriff Deputies and charged with domestic abuse, assault, criminal threatening and reckless conduct, all Class D offenses. He was also charged with violation of conditions of release, Class E, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

He is currently on probation, since July 6, for a drug conviction in Cumberland County.

Police were called July 12 around 4 p.m. to the Maritime Farms gas station on Route 17 in Union for a possible domestic violence incident.

The victim, who appeared upset, was crying and had bruises on her face, a nose that was swollen and black and blue, and a cut on her right hand. She asked a witness at the gas station to call police for help, according to the police affidavit filed in Knox County Unified Court.

According to a witness report, Vangel got back in the car with the victim and drove off before police arrived. Another witness followed the vehicle and was able to direct police to its location near the Union Common, where Sgt. John Palmer made contact with Vangel, according to the court document.

Vangel was arrested at the scene by Palmer. He told police that the victim had been attacked by another girl. Police noted that Vangel’s shirt was covered in the victim’s blood, but he said it was his own blood, according to the court document.

When police interviewed the victim, she said that they were arguing in the car and she told him she wanted to end their relationship. Vangel allegedly punched her several times in the face with a closed fist. She said that he was allegedly driving more than 90 miles per hour and threatened to drive the car into a tree. The victim said “she was in fear for her life.”

Vangel was transported to the Knox County Jail by Deputy Nathaniel Jack. During his transport in the cruiser, he allegedly told Jack “long live Dallas” and “no wonder they killed those cops,” according to the court document.

Vangel will appear in court again Sept. 15 for a dispositional conference.
