Lincolnville Board of Selectmen Candidate: Rosendel Gerry

Mon, 10/17/2016 - 12:15pm

Rosendel “Rosey” Gerry is seeking the open one-year term, November 2016 to June 2017, on the Lincolnville Board of Selectmen, Assessors and Overseers of the Poor. The seat became available before it expired, due to the resignation of selectman and secretary Cathy Hardy, whose term was to expire June 2017.

What is your background, personal bio information?

As for my personal background, only a few in Lincolnville know! But through a great bribe, Dave Kinney and Diane O'Brien have promised to be silent! The latest Maine Seniors magazine has lots more info.

    Why are you running?

If this were three months ago or a year ago, I would say that I was on something, but after finding out that Ms. Hardy was leaving the country in a hurry, and the town administrator decided to take an unexpected sick leave, and only being off the board a couple months, I felt that my experience from being on the board for the last nine years would be a help to the other selectmen and not burden the interim administrator with training a new person at this time. I only seek this short-term. I've always been willing to do my part in town.

Are there any issues that have been brought up to you by the citizenry that you plan to address?

Penobscot Bay Pilot has posed questions to each candidate running for the Lincolnville Board of Selectmen, providing the opportunity for the public to better understand their position on issues important to the state. The candidates have responded with their individual written answers.

There will always be pressing issues in Lincolnville. Everyone's concerns and good ideas for improving the town that are brought to the selectmen should be considered, but the forest fire must be put out before the campfire can be extinguished! Some will say taxes are the major concern, that the budget is too high. I would say, spend some time with the financial director to see where your pennies go. And then there are always openings on the Budget Committee. One of my pet projects is the upkeep of our roads and bridges. In the past this has been a major concern, but as of now we are in pretty good shape. However, we must keep up with our improvement program!

    I have no pressing issues!

What is your opinion on solar power?

I am in favor of a natural resource that will save all of us money in the long term. Solar seems to be in that direction.

What is your opinion on how Lincolnville should handle its trash?

Lincolnville has appointed competent people who have worked on the waste disposal issue for several years. I trust and agree with their recommendations—and the vote of the people at town meeting.

What is needed to maintain and support a vibrant and active harbor, beach area?

The town has contracted with a research company to find out what the town's best option are for the future of the harbor district. It will be interesting to see their report.

What is your opinion of the school budget?

My opinion you ask? Selectmen or taxpayers have very little to do with school budget!

What would you do to help the ongoing re-energizing of Lincolnville Center?

I have always encouraged people to bring in home occupation businesses. I also am a supporter of seeking grants to build sidewalks in Lincolnville Center.

What is needed to make the Route 1 rebuild a good thing for Lincolnville? How do you think the pending reconstruction of Route 1 north in Camden will affect Lincolnville's Route 1 reconstruction, if and when that happens?

Lincolnville has a track record of working well with Maine DOT and other utilities, and we have key people in place to secure Lincolnville's Route 1 future. I am very confident that the people who have been appointed or hired will see their job as important to the future of Lincolnville.

How would you define "good town government?"

Good Town Government? Take a look at Lincolnville's town government now. They are doing a great job.

Is there any other topic or issue you would like to talk about? Have at it!

I've been involved in this town in one way or another my whole life, right or wrong, I love it! There is no better town!
