ROCKLAND - Lewis E. Edwards, 61, of Rockland, passed away on Oct. 9, 2016, from cancer, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Rockland on March 29, 1955, he was the son of Lewis and Flora Edwards. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Rockland District High School.

Lewis worked at Rockland Container for many years until it closed and then moved onto Weatherend. In recent years he kept busy with his many projects around the house, always with his dog by his side. He enjoyed tinkering on his truck, working in his garden, and cutting wood. He also loved to make a quick buck on horse-racing, scratch tickets and the Megabucks.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was a kind-hearted man who would help anyone in need. Many members of his family fondly remember Lewis working on their vehicles or informing them how simple it would be to fix it themselves. A generally quiet man, many could not resist strolling up to Lewis for a short or long chat at any family gathering.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sheila; his daughters, Marie Curtis and her husband, Darrell, Leanne Edwards and her companion, Gage Rector, and Michelle Edwards; his grandchildren, Tyler Jones, Noah and Derek Curtis; his great-grandchildren, Kyleigh and Jordan Grubbs; his sisters, Kathy Flaherty and her husband, Roland, and Lugene (Jean) Jackson and her husband, Larry; his loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a host of long term friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Robert Edwards Sr.; and his granddaughter, Chelsea Jones.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Rockland.

Arrangements are with Riposta Funeral Home.
