Letter to the editor: Vote for Anastasia Fischer for Rockport Select Board

On June 13, Rockport voters will be presented with several important choices to make. In addition to a bond to finance a new middle school building for Camden and Rockport, three Select Board seats will be up for election. In the midst of an intense debate over the future of the town’s library, as well as an array of other issues that test our community’s ability to come together to solve problems, meet public financial stewardship goals, and plan for the future, it is a good thing to see that seven citizens have come forward as candidates for our Select Board.

Among these is Anastasia Fischer. I believe Anastasia’s background is especially well suited to the challenges ahead for Rockport: She has lived in this community for over 15 years, raised her son — a student in our public schools — here, and has served the local community via participation on the CHRHS/SAD28 Strategic Planning Initiative. On a state level, she has engaged in advisory and mentorship roles related to digital technology initiatives as well as serving on the board of the Eastern Maine Conservation Initiative. As a professional in the digital user experience industry for over 25 years, she has advised companies large and small in a national context. Her success in this field has required tremendous skill in dealing with diverse viewpoints to manage collaboration and make progress toward a common goal — Rockport could really benefit from this.

In talking recently with Anastasia, I was very impressed by her succinct response to the question of why she is running for Rockport Select Board. Her answer: To serve the community by promoting effective and efficient processes. She is enthusiastic about the prospect of bringing a fresh perspective to the governance challenges Rockport faces.

Please join me on June 13 in voting for Anastasia Fischer for Rockport Select Board.
