Letter to the editor: Trekkers thanks Home Kitchen Café for donation

Mon, 01/26/2015 - 7:30pm

Trekkers was pleased and honored to be selected as one of the recipients of this year’s “Giving Starts at Home” fundraiser at the Home Kitchen Café. We want to thank the owners, James Hatch and Susan Schiro, for creating this fundraising event, and are so grateful to the staff and patrons for supporting our organization through their efforts.

In the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the wonderful wait staff at the Home Kitchen Café asked their customers for $5 donations in support of two local nonprofits, Trekkers and the AIO Food Pantry. In return, each donation was entered in a drawing to win one of four Home Kitchen Café gift cards. The staff exceeded last year’s donations goal and, as a result of their amazing efforts, Trekkers was the recipient of a $1,000 check. This generous donation will go a long way to help our organization provide educational programming, mentoring relationships and tutoring support to 200 local youth this year.

We appreciate all that Home Kitchen Café has done to support Trekkers and other local nonprofits over the years. We are also grateful to all the folks who made $5 donations during the four weeks of the “Giving Starts at Home” fundraiser. It is truly rewarding to live in a community where both businesses and community members are so supportive of the work we do.

With sincere thanks to Home Kitchen Cafe and to the community for your support.
