Letter to the editor: Trekkers Thanks the Community for Supporting Sunset Dessert Cruise

Tue, 07/21/2015 - 8:30pm

On behalf of Trekkers, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who participated in our most recent fundraising event, the Sunset Dessert Cruise with special guest, Peter Ralston.  In true Trekkers’ style, a community of dessert bakers and dedicated supporters contributed to the success of our cruise on the Elizabeth Ann on July 12. As we steamed through the waters of Muscongus Bay, our 95 guests enjoyed homemade desserts, as well as the stunningly beautiful seascapes and serene waters surrounding Port Clyde harbor and the nearby islands.

Special thanks go to Monhegan Boat Line and their staff, for providing exemplary service to our guests. Thank you to Peter Ralston, who provided a wonderful narration of the history of the Wyeth’s connection to Benner and Allen Islands. A special thank you to Alli Young, who coordinated the dessert donations, and to all the Trekkers families and supporters, who provided a wonderful variety of desserts for our evening cruise.

We are also grateful to the event sponsors and supporters, including Monhegan Boat Line, Archer’s on the Pier, Craignair Inn, The Landings Restaurant, LimeRock Inn, Maine Lighthouse Museum, Peter Ralston/Ralston Gallery, Primrose Framing and Mary Sesak. Trekkers truly appreciates their generosity and encourages everyone to support these local enterprises and individuals. Of course, we also want to thank everyone who attended the event itself! And, our congratulations go to raffle prize winner, Ilmi Carter, who was the recipient of the beautiful matted Ralston photograph, entitled “Moontide.”

Proceeds from our sunset cruise will support Trekkers’ youth-mentoring programs, helping us provide 200 students with experiential learning programs this year. As we celebrate Trekkers’ 21st year of mentoring youth from the Midcoast area, I continue to be humbled and amazed by the outpouring of support we receive from the community. It is through the steadfast support like this that we are able to achieve Trekkers’ mission of connecting young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education. My sincere thanks to everyone in the community who helped make this sunset cruise so successful.
