Letter to the editor: Time to say ‘no’ to a vision of Rockport’s past

Fri, 10/31/2014 - 1:30pm

There seems to be little or “no" logic in the arguments put forward by the “no" group in the debate about the future of the Rockport library.  They have “no” workable plans for dealing with parking. There are “no” realistic plans  looking at expanding the library facilities in a workable fashion. There is “no” discussion of plans or cost updating our woefully inadequate and outdated heating system, much less the continuing cost of fuel oil.  There is “no” truth to what they seem to believe will be the cost of a new library.  There is “no” reality in the phony PhotoShop, which proposes to depict what their library looks like.  They gloss over any specific ideas about the cost the purely speculative proposal for their “plans,” while “quoting” exorbitant numbers for building a new library, which I remind you, has not even begun to be designed yet. Furthermore, they discuss “the Village” as if it were the entire town of Rockport, while there are, in reality, five village areas which make up our town, most of which would be far better served by this new facility and location.

It’s time to say “no" to them and their vision of the past and yes to moving forward with a library which will serve our community for years to come.
