Letter to the editor: Thank you, from Senate candidate Paula Sutton

Dear Knox County,

Now that the elections are over, I wish to express my thanks to everyone. I have learned many valuable lessons, met scores of amazing and inspirational individuals and feel a deeper connection with my community.

Thank you for taking your time to speak with me and share your stories. I am grateful for having had a chance to participate in the democratic process that makes America what it is today. I have an expanded appreciation for all public servants knowing firsthand the time and energy it takes. Politics is not for the faint of heart and it forces a person critically examine their beliefs, values and priorities and to have reasoning and solid data to support their answers.

I have developed more compassion, more understanding and more tolerance for my neighbors, but remain solid in my belief that a smaller, more efficient government is the true answer to the majority of our economic and personal woes. It is simply wrong to spend more than we have as a state, passing the debt along to the next generation. I also would like to thank Bob Carter Jr., who was my treasurer and constant and reliable source of strength and wisdom, and my husband, Kerin Resch, who has been unwavering in his understanding of the time and energy I devoted to the campaign.

Many thanks to the other members of my team: Joe and Linda Bodnar, Dick Brussard, Oggi Cohen, Jolinda Rockett, Jan Dolcater, Gene Graves, Maynard Stanley, Liamm Sigaud, Cathy Cooper, Ken Frederic, Dawn LaFlamme, Bill Peace, Gordon Colby, Dave Emery, Jeannie Harkins , Deb McNeil, Leanne Robicheaud, Nick Lapham, all the members of the Knox County Republican Committee and so many others I cannot name them all. You freely offered me your time, energy, knowledge and support.

Thank you to all those who made voluntary financial contributions to my campaign. To have people reach in their own pockets and donate because they believe in me is an amazing and humbling experience. I am forever grateful. Thank you.
