Letter to the editor: A library for all

Sun, 06/07/2015 - 8:30pm

Tuesday, June 9, please vote for Eliza Haselton and Sarah Shepherd, the two independent candidates running for two open positions on the Rockport Library Committee.

Shortly after the election, reports from the two most recent studies about the library (both studies endorsed/supported/funded by the Select Board and the Library Committee), will be presented to the public. The studies, completed by independent "outside" consultants, throughly examined and evaluated both the current physical structure and the current library program/usage. The Select Board funded the building engineering study conducted by CES, Inc. and the Library Committee funded the library program/usage study conducted by professional library consultant, Steve Podgajny.

Haselton and Shepherd are the only Library Committee candidates who support both studies and more important, acknowledge the independence and validity of both studies. Haselton and Shepherd pledged at Candidates' Night to carefully examine information presented from each study BEFORE either of them form any opinions/recommendations about the future of the library.

Haselton and Shepherd, regular library users, volunteers and avid library supporters are the two candidates that will best represent and serve the entire town of Rockport and all Rockport residents, ALL lLibrary users. Both Alan and I ask that you vote for Haselton and Shepherd for Rockport Library Committee. Thanks so much!
