Letter to the editor: Help others soar with music

Thu, 02/09/2017 - 4:30pm

My name is Tammy Davis, but this isn't about me. This started when my (custodial) 10-year-old granddaughter, Autumn, asked if she could learn to play the guitar. We were very excited she wanted to pick up this musical instrument and learn to play. After asking friends and making phone calls, a very nice lady by the name of Anne answered our call. She answered all of our questions (and I had many), explained the MidCoast Music Academy's (MCMA) philosophy of their programs.

I knew this was it, this was the perfect program for Autumn.

We discussed instruction times and the fees. This is where the 'miracle of help' came into play. This amazing program was unfortunately more than what our budget could handle. She discussed this matter with professionalism, and not once did I feel 'inadequate'.

At this time, she offered a scholarship for Autumn. This meant that Autumn could participate with MCMA and learn the guitar that she so wanted to play. To us, it meant much more.

Having this scholarship available to Autumn meant to us that she would not just be learning a musical instrument, she was going to be able to expand her learning environment, playing with a group of peers with the same interest of herself, and most importantly, liifting her confidence to a higher level where she would feel, and be, successful.

Now, this brings me to why I am writing this letter and you are reading it. I am emotionally attached to MCMA and its scholarship program. I can only imagine how this could open doors of success to other students.
MCMA can NOT do this on their own.

We are asking for your support to this amazing program so others can have the opportunity Autumn has had, and continues to achieve. Please make a donations (no amount is to small), so others can have the opportunity to soar with music.

Thank you for reading this.
