Letter to the editor: Different reason for opposing RES site?

Fri, 10/31/2014 - 4:15pm

Why so much opposition to just considering the former Rockport Elementary School site as the location for a new library?

Douglas Posson, in his Oct. 20 letter to the editor, may have given us some insight. He advocated for a cost analysis to include consideration of "other uses of the town-owned RES site."

He concluded that keeping the library at its present location would mean that "a fringe benefit is that the RES site and adjoining ball field would remain available for future opportunities to benefit Rockport's citizens and the town's bottom line."

To be sure, development always benefits someone's bottom line.

In this case, it ought to be a collective bottom line.

So, before we vote, what uses?

Sale of the land?

Development? For what purpose?

Anyone who wants to build a mall should consider the many large spaces for sale on Route 1.

Details, please.

Vote yes on 8 and 9 for a Library for All.
