SEARSPORT — Lester L. “Chuck” Weser, 94, of Searsport, died June 4, 2016, at Waldo County General Hospital, following a period of declining health.

Chuck was born Dec. 12, 1921, in New City, N.Y., the son of Lester Niles and Harriet Neil Weser. He was educated in New City and graduated from Congers High School, N.Y. After graduating, Chuck was employed at Grumman, where he worked on the TBF Avenger. A year later he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed at Fire Island, N.Y.

After World War II, Chuck went to work for the Clark's Town Police Department in New York. His love of cars prompted him to change his career, and in 1955 he opened Weser Ford in Tuxedo Park, N.Y. In 1959, Chuck moved his family to Maine and along with his wife, Helen, opened Check with Chuck Auto Sales in Northport. He also enjoyed selling real estate and in his later years opened Bay Shore Realty.

Chuck was faithful in getting his Uncle Henry's every week and would read each and every ad. Chuck and Helen together would go and seek out treasures, collectibles and antiques. He was interested in everything. Chuck was a fix-it kind of guy and made sure his family didn't forget his favorite line: "if someone built it, I can sure as hell fix it!," words well spoken from a child of the Depression. Chuck loved to hunt, whether with his sons in the woods of Waldo County or with friends in the Adirondacks in New York. In his senior years, Chuck loved to regale anyone who would listen to his stories - it gave him one more opportunity to relive his 94 years. Also Chuck was very proud to be a Mason and was a 61-year member of Excelsior Lodge #151 in Northport.

Chuck was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Helen Getter; and his son, Corey Christopher. Chuck is survived by his three sons, Lester Richard and his wife, Nancy Kelley, of Searsmont, Robert George and his wife, Susan Schmalkuke, of Lake Park, Fla., and Peter Niles and his wife, Denise Colone, of Orland. Chuck is also survived by two granddaughters, Heidi Ann Burke and her husband, Steven, of Warrenton, Va., and Kristen Kelley Brazier of Brewer. Chuck has two great-grandchildren, Corey Jameson Burke and Clancey Merle Brazier. Chuck had some very dear friends and one who he especially adored – "my" Dulcie Noble, David Bishop, Tom Noble, DJ Bishop, Sharon Dean and Dr. Brad Samojla.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday June 8, at 11 a.m. at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave. in Belfast, with a committal at Maplewood Cemetery in Lincolnville.

Those who wish may make donations in Chuck's memory to Searsport Ambulance or Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, P.O. Box 772, Belfast, ME 04915.
