CAMDEN — Laura Mae Simonton, 91, died Nov. 21, 2012, at Anderson Inn in Camden. Born in Rockland May 12, 1921, she was the daughter of Herbert L. and Elizabeth Oxton. She was a graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast and worked for a number of years as a certified nursing aide at Camden Community Hospital.

Mrs. Simonton had been a long-time resident of Beaucaire Avenue in Camden. She made and preserved jam, jelly and pickles, which she sold from her home to her many customers throughout the summer months. She was a member of the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce and for many years at the Simonton Corner Hall in Rockport was known as the square dance caller.

Mrs. Simonton attended the Bayshore Baptist Church in Lincolnville Beach, and was a member of the Good Sam Camper's Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was predeceased by her husbands, William Munroe and Edgar Simonton; three sons, Timothy Munroe and his wife, Susan, James Munroe and William Munroe; her brother, Elmer Oxton; and her sister, Elizabeth Annis. Surviving are four grandchildren, Shawn Munroe of Vassalboro, Jim Munroe and his wife, Brenda, of Rockport, Crystal Munroe and her fiancé, Ben Walker, of Hope, and Channa Munroe and her husband, Todd Putansu, of Owls Head; and one great-grandchild and one great great-grandchild.

A spring graveside service will be held in the West Rockport Cemetery.
