Knox County Sheriff’s deputies respond to St. George gunshot wound, Warren baby’s death

    The Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to two traumatic incidents Friday night into Saturday. On June 23 at approximately 11 p.m., Sgt. Lance Mitchell, Deputy Jeremy Joslyn and Deputy Scott Redmun responded to a report of a female with a gunshot wound, in St. George.

    Sgt. Mitchell and Deputy Joslyn arrived to find a 22-year-old woman had sustained a gunshot wound to her abdomen. Her live in boyfriend, 21-year-old Sam Ryan, reported he was asleep and awoke to the sound of the gunshot.

    Sgt. Mitchell and Deputy Joslyn immediately started administering first aid with the assistance of Deputy Redmun, who arrived several minutes later. The deputies continued to tend to the wound and blood loss until St. George rescue arrived.

    The deputies investigated the incident to find that the woman had picked up the loaded 9mm handgun and it had accidently discharged into her abdomen. She was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center, Rockport, where she was in stable condition, according to a news release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.

    On June 24, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Sgt. John Palmer, Deputy Paul Pinkham and Deputy Paul Spear responded to the report of a 2 1/2 week old girl who had died during the night, in Warren.

    The death was discovered by her parents, who immediately reported the death to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

    According to Maine Protocol, The State Police Major Crimes Unit investigates all deaths of children under the age of three.
