Knox County Sheriff’s beat: Car accidents and arrests on warrants

    ROCKLAND — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following incidents Jan. 26 through Feb. 1. In total, deputies received 266 calls for service. Calls not listed below concerned all-terrain vehicle problems, alarms, 911 hang-ups, nuisance issues, erratic vehicles and suspicious complaints. An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt.  An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

    Jan. 26

    Subsequent to a traffic stop in Camden, Deputy Arthur Smith issued a summons for driving to endanger.

    Deputy Matt Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Friendship involving a single vehicle. Subsequent to this response, the operator was issued summonses for operating without a license and attaching false plates. There was reportable damage.

    Deputy Paul Pinkham responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Hope involving a single vehicle. There was non-reportable damage.

    Deputy Lance Mitchell and Sgt. James Moore responded to a report of a domestic in Owls Head. This was deemed a verbal argument only. The parties were separated for the evening and both issued warnings of harassment.

    Deputy Robert Potter responded to a report of an erratic vehicle on Vinalhaven. The vehicle was located, on its side with no one around. The operator was later located and issued summonses for failure to report an accident by quickest means and leaving the scene. The vehicle was a total loss.

    Deputy Smith and Sgt. Moore responded to Friendship to conduct a probation check on an adult male. Subsequent to this response, Danny Reed, 58, of Friendship, was arrested on a probation hold. Reed was transported to Knox County Jail without incident.

    Sgt. Moore arrested Joseph Malburg, 47, of Owls Head, on an outstanding warrant. Malburg was transported to Knox County Jail without incident.

    Jan. 27

    Deputy Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Washington involving two vehicles. One operator was issued a summons for failure to stop at a stop sign, which was the key factor in this crash. There was reportable damage.

    Deputy Mitchell conducted a radar detail in South Thomaston. No violations were noted.

    Sgt. Moore arrested Adam Griffin, 30, of Warren, on an outstanding warrant. Griffin was transported to Knox County Jail without incident.

    Deputy Smith arrested Nick Adkins, 23, of Warren, on an outstanding warrant. Adkins was transported to Knox County Jail without incident.

    January 28:

    Detective Justin Twitchell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Appleton involving a single vehicle with reportable damage.

    Deputy Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in South Thomaston involving two vehicles. There was non-reportable damage.

    Deputy Elwell began an investigation of harassment in Union. The female suspect was issued a written notice for same.

    Deputy Elwell began an investigation of trespassing in Union. The male suspect will be issued a written notice for same when he is located.

    Deputy Sprague began an investigation of harassment and trespassing in Warren. The male suspect was issued a written notice for both.

    Deputy Potter conducted a radar detail on Vinalhaven. No violations were noted.

    Deputies Spear, Smith and John Hansen and Lt. Kirk Guerrette responded to a 911 hang-up call in Hope. Upon arrival, it was found that a domestic had taken place. Subsequent to this response, Matthew Berry, 36, of Lincolnville, was arrested on a charge of domestic violence assault. Berry was transported to Knox County jail, where he was also issued summonses for operating under the influence, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

    Deputy Spear arrested Thomas Weeks, 33, of St. George, on an outstanding warrant. Weeks was escorted to Knox County jail without incident.

    Deputy Hansen responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Appleton involving a single vehicle striking a deer. There was non-reportable damage to the vehicle.

    Jan. 29

    Deputy Jeremy Joslyn conducted a radar detail on North Haven. No violations were noted.

    Deputy Sprague responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Union involving two vehicles. There was reportable damage.

    Deputy Hansen began an investigation of theft in South Thomaston. Subsequent to this investigation, Jesse Seward, 30, of South Thomaston, was arrested on charges of criminal mischief, theft and probation violation. Seward was transported to Knox County jail without incident.

    Deputy Joslyn responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on North Haven involving a single vehicle striking a deer. There was non-reportable damage to the vehicle.

    Deputy Nathaniel Jack and Sgt. Moore responded to a report of an assault in Warren. The suspect was later located and issued a summons for same.

    Deputies Spear and Hansen responded to a report of a domestic in Cushing. Upon arrival, it was found that this was a verbal argument only and the parties separated for the evening.

    Deputy Jack and Sgt. Moore responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Union involving a single vehicle. The vehicle sustained reportable damage and an injured passenger was transported by Union Ambulance to Pen Bay Medical Center. Subsequent to this response, Ryan Turner, 32, of Union, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence of drugs. Turner was transported to Knox County Jail without incident.

    Sgt. Moore arrested Tiffany Batty, 32, of Rockland, on two outstanding warrants.

    Jan. 30

    Deputy Sprague conducted a radar detail in Union. One warning for speed was issued.

    Deputy Potter responded to a report of a domestic on Vinalhaven. Upon arrival, this was deemed a verbal argument only and the parties were separated for the evening.

    Deputies Sprague and Pinkham and Detective Dwight Burtis responded to a report of a domestic in St. George. Subsequent to this response, Gabriel Grover, 22, of Union, was arrested on charges of assault and criminal use of an electronic devise. Edward Grover, 24, of Union, was also arrested on charges of domestic violence assault, obstructing report of a crime, domestic violence criminal threatening and domestic violence reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. Both subjects were transported to Knox County Jail without incident.

    Deputy Joslyn conducted a radar detail on North Haven. No violations were noted.

    Deputy Spear arrested Isaac Hubbard, 32, of Brooks, on an outstanding warrant. Hubbard was transported to Knox County Jail without incident.

    Jan. 31

    Deputy Spear arrested Becky Condon, 24, of Washington, on two outstanding warrants. Condon was transported to Knox County Jail without incident.

    Deputy Hansen conducted a radar detail in Owls Head. No violations were noted.

    Feb. 1

    Deputy Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Appleton involving a single vehicle striking a deer. There was non-reportable damage to the vehicle.

    Subsequent to a traffic stop in Warren, Deputy Pinkham issued a summons for no inspection.

    Deputy Spear responded to a report of an erratic vehicle in Hope. The vehicle and operator were located and showed no signs of impairment.

    Sgt. John Palmer arrested Christina Karod, 21, of Rockland, on an outstanding warrant. Karod was escorted to Knox County Jail without incident.

    Deputy Jack responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving a single vehicle striking a deer. There was no damage to the vehicle.
