OWLS HEAD — A Knox County Sheriff's deputy Wednesday was able to disarm and subdue an Owls Head man, who was subsequently found to also be carrying an electric stun device, a steel baton and several knives. The man was being sought on a warrant for criminal mischief.

Deputy Jeremy Joslyn on April 8 went to the residence of 40-year-old Ronald Harding, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, according to Chief Deputy Tim Carroll. While pulling into the driveway, Joslyn saw Harding sitting in the driver's seat of his truck, and when Harding saw the deputy, he allegedly immediately exited the truck and ran for his house.

"Josyln gave chase yelling for Harding to stop and that he was under arrest," said Carroll is a press release Thursday. "Joslyn was able to tackle Mr. Harding just as he was entering the residence. A scuffle ensued as Harding refused to submit to arrest."

During the scuffle, Carroll said the deputy saw Harding attempting to pull a dagger out of his jacket sleeve and was able to disarm Harding of the knife.

At that point, Harding then allegedly pulled a pistol from his side, and Joslyn was able to get the pistol away from Harding as well.

"Harding continued to try and get his hand back on the pistol as Deputy Josyln continued to pull Harding away from it. Deputy Josyln was able to hold Mr. Harding away from the gun until Deputy [Paul] Spear arrived for assistance," said Carroll in the release.

Harding allegedly continued to resist arrest while the deputies were handcuffing him, but he was eventually restrained.

A search of Harding produced an electronic stun device, a steel baton and several other knives. Carroll said the handgun was found to be a loaded .40-caliber pistol.

During the scuffle with the deputies, Harding sustained a small cut to the bridge of his nose and tongue, and Joslyn sustained a hand injury. Rockland EMS transported Harding to Pen Bay medical Center, where he was treated before being transferred to Knox County Jail.

Joslyn was also treated at Pen Bay Medical Center and released.

In addition to the warrant for a charge of criminal mischief; Harding was charged with refusing to submit to arrest, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. He remains at the jail.
